Remember logs?
So one mol is 602,200,000,000,000,000,000,000 of something, also known as 6.022x10 23 If you're going to memorize a few numbers in life, that's a good one to memorize.
Remember when we talked about logs?
What is a mol in log scale?
(To make this problem interactive, turn on javascript!)
- I need a hint ... : Remember that for big numbers, the log is approximately the number of
zero's after the first digit.
- ...another hint ... : 602,200,000,000,000,000,000,000 has 23 zero's, so the answer is going to
be more than 23, but less than 24.
- I need a hint ... : The log of 6.022 is approximately 0.8.
I think I have the answer: 23.8
